What have we done to our world, and is there a possibility that we can change what increasingly appears to be a bleak future? Is there any evidence for hope? Is there a kind of melancholic beauty to this, and how am I to show both in my work? My work explores my experience as a woman who has lived her whole life in western New York State, in a dying post-industrial city. Despite leading an admittedly upper middle class existence, the problems of a declining community have affected me deeply.
